WhatsApp new Android beta update lets you transfer money by scanning QR codes

A new update for those who are on the WhatsApp Android beta version will now let you scan a QR code to easily transfer money. While WhatsApp Payments has yet to go official, users on the latest beta version 2.18.93 on Android can now send across money by simply scanning a QR code and then entering their UPI PIN.

The new feature kind of completes the package for WhatsApp Payments and brings the service, which has yet to go live officially, on par with services like Paytm.

To makes things clear, the feature is currently seen on the WhatsApp beta program, that Android users can choose to be a part off via the Google Play Store.
WhatsApp earlier added a 'send to UPI ID' feature that made it possible to send payments to unique UPI IDs without the need to send the same via a conversation thread. The new QR code now lets you simply scan you friends WhatsApp Payments QR code and quickly transfer money.

To do this, a user needs go to Settings, then tap on Payments> New Payments and Scan QR code. Once here, the user will then be directed to a QR code scanning option that first asks you for the amount, followed by the UPI PIN.

WhatsApp Payments is seeing quite a few developments in its current pilot test period. While the service has yet to launched officially for all users, it seems to be adding the right mix of features, that should make it a worthy competitor in the digital wallet space. Being a messenger at heart, WhatsApp Payments launch could give a boost that should add greater momentum to India's digital payments revolution.
